Try the testnet.
Download the PEC Wallet, which runs a node for you, or run the node and command line yourself. Setup takes a few minutes.
This is a test network. Its coins have no value. Expect frequent updates and occasional resets, when the chain starts again from nothing.
PEC Wallet
A desktop wallet with your balance, sending and receiving, names, mining and staking. It starts the node for you and updates itself.
Unzip into a folder of its own and start pec-gui. macOS is not available yet. Linux needs glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 or later). On Windows, if nothing happens, install Microsoft's Visual C++ Redistributable.
From download to first block.
-
Start the node
The wallet does this for you. If you use pecd directly, it connects to the testnet and downloads the chain by itself. Leave it running.
-
Make a wallet and keep the words
Choose a passphrase, then write down the 24 recovery words it shows once. Keep them offline. They are the only way back to your coins, and anyone who sees them can take your coins.
-
Mine
Turn mining on in the wallet, or run pec-cli setmining on. Rewards go to one address in your wallet labelled "mining".
-
Stake
From block 1,000 on the testnet, coins in a Taproot address (tpec1p…) that are at least six hours old can stake while your wallet runs. They stay spendable. If your wallet has a passphrase, unlock it "for staking only", which can never send your coins.
Node, command line and miner.
Put pecd and pec-cli in a folder of their own; they update themselves there. On Linux, run chmod +x on them first.
| System | Node | Command line | Miner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Linux, Intel / AMD | pecd | pec-cli | pec-miner |
| Linux, ARM 64-bit | pecd | pec-cli | pec-miner |
| Windows, 64-bit | pecd.exe | pec-cli.exe | pec-miner.exe |
Every release lists SHA-256 checksums so you can check a download. Older versions are on the Releases page.
