Run a node
A node keeps its own copy of the chain and checks every block itself. More nodes make the network harder to attack. Nodes can accept incoming connections on port 48334, and pecd asks your router to open it for you.
How to start →Pectara is designed around participation. You do not need permission or a large balance to take part: anyone can run a node, mine, stake, or build on top of the network.
Everything below works on the test network today. The testnet's coins have no value, so it is a safe place to learn and to find problems before mainnet.

How to start →Mining uses your computer's processor (RandomX), not special hardware. It is built into the node, and other computers can mine through it with pec-miner. Mining carries on for good, side by side with staking.
About the technology →From the staking start height, coins in a Taproot address that are at least six hours old can stake. Staking does not lock your coins: they stay yours and spendable, and only spending one restarts its age.
When staking starts →On the testnet you can register a human-readable name on the chain, as an identity that is separate from your payment addresses. Names are 3 to 20 characters and are permanent.
Testnet only for nowThe node has a read-only explorer interface, written up in a developer guide, so explorers, indexers and other services can be built on it. This site's explorer is one of them.
Open the explorer →The testnet exists to be broken. Updates are frequent and the chain is sometimes reset, so bug reports, odd behaviour and rough edges are the most useful thing you can bring right now.
Releases on GitHub →How the community will make decisions together is still being designed. Ideas on the table include voting on proposals by holders of a name, a community development treasury, and wallet "quests". None of them is final, and details such as the voting maths are still being worked out.
We would rather say this plainly than promise a system that does not exist yet. Anything that is decided will be published here and on the roadmap.
