Building step by step.
Where Pectara is today, what comes next, and what is still undecided. There are no launch dates here on purpose: mainnet will launch when it is ready, not before.
Right now: second public testnet, running since 13 October 2026.
PROGRESS
From design to testnet to mainnet.
-
Done
Foundation
- Peercoin chosen as the base (MIT licence), re-implemented in Zig.
- Economic simulator used to test the design before consensus code was written.
- Core chain: RandomX mining, DigiShield difficulty retargeting, SegWit and Taproot, a 60-second block time.
-
Done
Public testnet
- Node (pecd), command line (pec-cli), CPU miner (pec-miner) and the PEC Wallet desktop app, for Windows and Linux.
- Staking and mining working side by side, with the staking start at block 1,000 on the testnet.
- On-chain names and a read-only explorer interface for services like this one.
- Programs update themselves from published releases, checked against a SHA-256 checksum.
-
Now
Testing and hardening
- Frequent testnet releases, with occasional resets when the chain starts again from nothing.
- Reviewing the consensus rules chosen for the testnet before they are carried to mainnet.
- This website and block explorer.
-
Next
Preparing mainnet
- Settle the open decisions: the opening block reward and emission, mainnet seed nodes, and the genesis block.
- Review the testnet's choices for scripts, wallet and relay before mainnet.
-
Mainnet
A fair launch
- No genesis allocation and no sale: coins come only from blocks.
- A proof-of-work-only opening of roughly one to three months, then staking begins and mining carries on beside it. The current plan is around 43,200 blocks, and it may change.
- A permanent 1% share of each block reward goes to an operating treasury. This is the plan today and could still change before launch.
-
Later
Ideas not yet decided
- Community voting and a development treasury.
- Peer-to-peer swaps from the wallet, and a browser extension for names on social media.
- Mobile and light wallets, and macOS builds (not available yet).
Parameters and dates can change as testing teaches us more. The latest status is always visible live in the explorer.
